TRIPLE GYM IN OSTERMUNDIGEN
2023

Ostermundigen, Switzerland

Project in collaboration with Raphael Kadid.
Landscape architecture BÖE Studio, Structure Pirmin Jung.
The project offers a hybrid building consisting of a simple, prefabricated timber frame construction standing on a concrete table. Thanks to a semi-subterranean floor, the need for excavation is reduced and by pulling back the retaining wall along the site, the sealed surfaces of the access ramp are compensated. The basement is constructed on an efficient and use-neutral column grid that allows for future adjustments to the spatial program. The timber structure above forms regular porticos along the entire length of the building, which allow the south-east façade to be fully opened up. A system of vertical sliding windows provides sufficient natural light and ventilation in the hall.
The access ramp runs along the path and forms an outdoor terrace that extends into the building. The foyer offers a view of the landscape along the entire length of the glazed timber façade and invites people to sit down with its integrated benches. Long wooden canopies with photovoltaic modules provide the necessary sun protection without obscuring the view or interfering with the natural light. They maximize the production of renewable energy and their geometry is based on the adjacent climbing hall.
